Becoming a radio amateur

Classes of Amateur Licence

Amateur radio licences are available at three levels. Full, Intermediate and Foundation, each level having differing examination requirements.

The full licence allows operation in all amateur radio bands and at full power as allocated to that band, all applicants for a full licence must pass the Radio Amateurs Examination (RAE). From 1st January 2004, any applicant for the Full license course must first have completed the Intermediate licence course.
