In a tuned radio frequency (TRF) receiver, the purpose of the detector is to

  1. change the RF signal to an AF signal
  2. choose and amplify the desired incoming signal
  3. amplify the AF signal
  4. change the incoming signal frequency to an intermediate frequency.

The answer is :- 1The purpose of the detector is to convert the r.f. signal to an a.f. signal. This in turn is fed to an a.f. amplifier and the loudspeaker.
