A moving coil multimeter of sensitivity 2000/V is set to ‘DC 20V’, and connected across terminals A and B in Fig. 23.1. The reading on the multimeter will be

  1. 20V
  2. 15V
  3. 10V
  4. 12V

The answer is :- 3 On the 20 V setting the instrument will have a resistance of 200 x 20 = 40000 . When the instrument is connected across terminals A and B the circuit will become

Thus only one third of the supply voltage (10V) will appear across A-B
