When starting a CQ call you should

  1. check the frequency is busy, to ensure good propagation
  2. immediately call ‘QRZ?’
  3. check the frequency is clear
  4. send a long CQ call to establish your presence

The answer is :- 3 Before calling CQ the operator should listen to check the frequency is not being used. Any immediate ‘on air’ activity could interfere with another user.
