Explanation of question 10

During a telephony contact you can only distinguish occasional words. The pointer on your receiver reads ‘S3’. You would give a signal report of

  1. Readability 2, Strength 3
  2. Readability 2, Strength 30
  3. Readability 4, Strength 3
  4. Readability 4, Strength 30

The answer is :- 1

RI means unreadable and with R2, only occasional words are distinguishable. ‘S3’ is a signal strength of 3. The signal report would therefore, be Readability 2, Strength 3. Because the mode of transmission is telephony, the report will be restricted to an R and S value.
