Explanation of question 18

For safety reasons a bleeder resistor is connected across a 0.5F capacitor. It should have a value

  1. less than 500k
  2. between 500k and 5M
  3. between 5M and 10M
  4. greater than 10M

The answer is :- 3 Paper dielectric capacitors are an example of low-leakage capacitors, i.e. they are able, in their isolated state, to store a charge for a considerable time. For this reason they should be individually short-circuited (time constant = RC).
