Transverters

The transverter (abbreviation - transmit/receive converter) enables a transceiver to operate on bands other than those for which it was designed. It combines the function of transmit frequency conversion and receive frequency conversion using a common oscillator.

A common application is to provide operation on the VHF and UHF bands from an HF transceiver, but they have also been designed to transvert to 1.8MHz. Fig 5.14 is a block diagram of an HF bands transceiver (tuned over the 28MHz band) transverted to 144MHz. The transverter oscillator frequency is 116MHz.
